As we approach the end of the year, many people are self-reflecting on how the year went and whether they deem it to be a “successful” year or not.
They usually determine this based on whether they were heavily profitable or not.
But as you probably have realised, success can be determined in many other ways.
Plus, when people set goals, they’re not always monetary, and some can be related to their personal lives.
These are still very important and significant as the way your personal life is will certainly affect your business.
However, many people set goals incorrectly, so that either they make them too easy and they don’t allow yourself to be pushed to new boundaries, or they’re too hard and you set yourself up for failure.
Benefits of goal-setting
Goal-setting is incredibly beneficial as they can help you stay focused and motivated towards something to achieve.
This will stop you getting distracted by other things that are irrelevant, but attractive. We all do it – we’re entrepreneurs.
By setting goals, we can ask ourselves whether activities can help you achieve those goals.
However, setting the wrong goals can be detrimental. For example, some people want to achieve their goals “no matter what” and so they decide to cut corners and do unethical things in order to meet targets.
Also, if you pick outcome-based goals and perhaps make them unrealistic, when you don’t achieve them, not only will you be disheartened, but you may ignore all the work you did along the way because you’re only focusing on the outcome.
Tips for setting goals
This workshop helped our founders determine healthy goals for themselves. These were not just seen as outcomes, but new habits that had to be created to form the skills necessary.
It was based around our founder, Sabrina’s SHAPING system that was published in Entrepreneur Magazine.
Each of our founders set new goals for Q1 2025 and are holding each other accountable to achieving these!
